Minagawa, last pitcher to reach 30 wins, dies at 69

Former Nankai Hawks pitcher Mutsuo Minagawa, the last pitcher in Japanese pro baseball to post 30 wins or more in a single season, died on Sunday. He was 69.

Minagawa died from a blood disease early Sunday afternoon at a hospital in Sakai, Osaka Prefecture. The submarine pitcher joined the Nankai Hawks, currently the Softbank Hawks, in 1954 and posted double-digit victories for eight consecutive years from 1956. (Kyodo News)
