Sony's smartphone division could be on the verge of heavy job cuts.
The consumer electronics giant is planning to layoff around 1,000 members of staff to stem losses in the sector, according to Nikkei.
The latest wave of redundancies will be in addition to the 1,000 jobs Sony cut late last year following a disappointing financial quarter.
Sony is reportedly aiming to reduce staffing in its mobile phone division by 30% by the end of its next fiscal quarter, which comes in March 2016.
Earlier this month, it was reported that Sony is considering offloading its Xperia and Bravia businesses to help it return to profitability.
The company is yet to officially confirm the reports of further job losses.
