The next core Battlefield game has been given a holiday 2016 launch date by Electronic Arts.

The tentatively titled Battlefield 5 will return to the series' military roots.

The news was announced during EA's latest financial earnings call.

The company also announced plans to release PGA Tour in the first quarter of the 2016 financial year.

Previously scheduled for spring, the game is now expected to launch between April and June this year.

Elsewhere, EA said that Need for Speed will return during the next financial year.

The company is gearing up to release Battlefield Hardline on March 19 in Europe and March 17 in North America.

Hardline will focus on the war between cops and criminals. It will contain a hostage-based multiplayer mode.
