Hey, guys... bad news... though it's a little bit old/too late, I just read an article today stating that Mai announced that she would be LEAVING the Taiwanese entertainment circle in March and returning to Japan. I MAY translate the article, but probably not, since it was very, very long. Here is the gist of it:
Mai held a press conference to say that she is suddenly very tired. It's partly because her grandfather, whom she loved very much, died last year, and she was unable to spend any time with him before he passed away... and also because her health was poorer last year (it also mentions how she, Makiyo, and Aisha have had a difficult time in Taiwan, having to work extra hard as their Taiwanese counterparts-- not only do they have to learn Mandarin and Taiwanese, but the acting roles they're given are also extremely, extremely limited and/or rare). The most important reason, though, is that Mai really wants to find her "prince charming," since her good friends Makiyo and Aisha are both extremely happy in their relationships... but Mai has had a lot of trouble in the romance department. Both of her boyfriends, Ken Chu XiaoTian and Huang YiDa, would not admit to having a relationship with her, and Ken even wound up cheating on her with Li BingBing. Then, for SNTGD, she was asked to have "ai mei" and flirtatious relationships on-screen with Jason Hsu MengZhe and Zax Wang RenFu (supposedly, she and MengZhe actually went on a couple of dates, but there wasn't enough chemistry), which made Zax's long-time girlfriend Ji Qin extremely displeased. Also, even though she's tried to move on from both of her relationships, the media will not let either of them rest; they keep asking her, even on variety shows, about the two of them and tease her for liking Taiwanese men. So anyway, she said, "Is love supposed to be like this? So hard? Why do I give so much and receive so little in return?" She also says that she has decided that she will only marry a Japanese man... but that the most important thing for her future boyfriend is that he should not be ashamed of admitting their relationship and be able to get along well with her parents.
Her manager says that she would be open to Mai returning to Taiwan, but that the important thing for her is to get the time away that she needs.
I will definitely miss her... she seems like a hopeless romantic at heart, and it's such a pity that she's had a hard time in Taiwan.
Best of luck!!
