Sony has claimed that the PlayStation 4 CPU is up to ten times faster than PS3's.
A new FAQ has flaunted the next-generation console's new specs, which are said to vastly outstrip its predecessor.
PS4 is said to be a quieter machine than the current PlayStation.
"The system features an optimised design featuring a unified 8GB of high-speed GDDR5 RAM, an eight core X86 CPU, and a powerful graphics processor," reads the FAQ.
"Generally speaking, the PS4 system will enable game developers to build larger, more detailed worlds than they could with the PS3 system.
"More realistic lighting models, more complex physics and particle effects, more varied and realistic character animations, sharper environment and object textures, higher screen resolutions (up to 1080p), higher frame rates (up to 60 frames per second), larger multiplayer matches and more will be possible thanks to the PS4 system's next-generation hardware."
It was also revealed it will not support YouTube at launch or external hard drives.
PS4 will launch on November 29 in Europe and November 15 in North America for £349/$399.

Motorola has announced that it is exploring the possibility of developing a modular smartphone.
Project Ara consists of a series of separable phone components that users can splice together depending on personal preference.
"The endo is the structural frame that holds all the modules in place. A module can be anything, from a new application processor to a new display or keyboard, an extra battery, a pulse oximeter - or something not yet thought of," said Motorola's Paul Eremenko.
The Project Ara concept is reminiscent of Dave Hakkens's PhoneBloks project, which recently appeared online.
Eremenko claims that Project Ara has been in the works for more than a year, with Hakkens on board to help amass a community around the venture.
Motorola will soon be inviting developers to create their own components for the project, and development kits are expected to be distributed this winter.
The Google-owned company is yet to confirm when a consumer version of the modulated smartphone might be available.

Tiger Woods and Electronic Arts have ended their partnership for the Tiger Woods PGA Tour series of golf games.
The studio announced today (October 28) that it is working on a new golf title for next-generation consoles and mobile platforms. It will still use the PGA Tour branding but not Woods's name.
EA Sports vice president and general manager of golf Daryl Holt said: "We've always been big fans of Tiger and we wish him continued success in all his future endeavours.
"Moving forward, we will continue to work with the PGA Tour exclusively to create groundbreaking golfing titles and our partnership remains strong."
Woods and EA released 16 main games together, from 1998's Tiger Woods PGA Tour 99 to this year's Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14.
Next-gen consoles will be released in November, beginning with the PS4 on November 15 in North America, followed by a global Xbox One launch on November 22.
European customers will be able to purchase the PS4 from November 29.

The PlayStation 4 will let gamers use their real name online at launch, Sony has confirmed to Kotaku.
Unlike the Xbox One, which won't initially offer the option, the PS4 will allow users to be identified by their real names for the system's online service from the get-go.
Microsoft's upcoming console will, however, eventually offer the option.
"While real identities continue to be part of our plans for the experience on Xbox One, at launch, customers will continue to search for friends using their Gamertags," a spokesperson for the firm said last week.
"Our teams are working hard to deliver a quality experience for Xbox One. This means prioritising some features and sometimes postponing others for a later update."
Users of either console won't be required to use their actual names and can choose to remain anonymous.
The PS4 launches on November 15 in North America and on November 29 in Europe.

Apple has formally announced the iPad Air at a special launch event in San Francisco.
The 9.7-inch Retina display device is considerably thinner than its predecessor and is being touted as the lightest tablet in the world, weighing in at 1lb (0.453592 kg).
Powered by the A7 chip found inside the iPhone 5S, the device is twice as powerful as the previous-generation model and 72 times faster than the original iPad.
The iPad Air also features 64-bit desktop class architecture, and graphically, performance has also doubled compared to the previous model.
Other features include the same M7 motion coprocessor found in the iPhone 5S, a 5-megapixel iSight camera, dual microphones, 1080p HD video recording, improved WiFi connectivity and expanded LTE support.
Apple claims that the device will offer 10 hours of battery life.
The iPad Air will be available in silver or space grey, and will ship to numerous countries, including the UK, on November 1.
The iPad Air starts at $499 for a 16GB Wi-Fi model in the US, and £399 in the UK. Orders will ship to numerous territories, including Britain, on November 1. UK customers can expect to pay between £499 and £739 for a tablet with a mobile data plan.
Apple's iPad 2 now serves as its entry-level slate, with prices starting at £329.
The tablet does not include the TouchID fingerprint scanner found on the iPhone 5S, as many analysts were predicting it would.
The maximum number of people able to participate in a Party Voice Chat on PlayStation 4 has been revealed.
Akin to the PlayStation Vita, the chat functionality on Sony's next-generation console will support a maximum of eight players.
"Party Voice Chat will support up to eight players on PS4, like PS Vita," said Sony social media manager Sid Shuman on the PlayStation Blog.
It was recently confirmed that PS4's DualShock 4 controller can be used on a PlayStation 3 console.
The new gamepad, which will come packaged with the PS4, was originally going to feature layouts similar to Xbox 360 and Wii U controllers.
The PS4 launches in North America on November 15 for $399 and in Europe on November 29 for €399.
Sony is executing the PlayStation 4 "exceptionally well", according to EA.
EA Labels president Frank Gibeau said that compared to how the PlayStation 3 was promoted, Sony is doing a better job marketing the upcoming console.
On the other hand, although the Xbox 360 was 'executed perfectly', Gibeau acknowledges that Microsoft has faced several challenges in regards to the Xbox One's initial negative reception.
"I think the Sony team has executed exceptionally well," Gibeau told Edge.
"And they did not execute particularly well on PS3, whereas last time around Microsoft executed perfectly.
"This time, Microsoft has run into some challenges, some leadership changes, but they're a very resilient organisation, and if you look at their counter punches on any setbacks, they've done a pretty good job of getting back on track."
The PS4 arrives in North America on November 15, followed by a European release on November 29.
The Xbox One, meanwhile, will launch worldwide on November 22.
Many Call of Duty players aren't avid gamers, developer Infinity Ward has suggested.
Despite playing Call of Duty every night, a number of dedicated fans of the first-person shooter series aren't even categorised as gamers, according to executive producer Mark Rubin.
"Because regardless of platform - people's gaming habits aren't going to change just because there's a new platform," Rubin told OXM, after saying he expects the franchise's audience to remain constant following the upcoming release of Call of Duty: Ghosts.
"We have an enormous amount of players who are more in the casual game space, but they play a lot."
He added: "It's kind of a weird, ironic thing to say.
"They aren't hardcore gamers, or even gamers, but they play Call of Duty every night. And those guys are going to continue to play regardless of platform.
"So I think not only will we continue to engage with that existing player base, but we'll take next gen and see how far we can go with it."
Last week, publisher Activision said it wants to eventually reclaim Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto 5 sales record, with future instalments such as Call of Duty: Ghosts.
Call of Duty: Ghosts is set to arrive for PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii U on November 5, with PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions being available when the next-generation consoles are released.

PS4's DualShock 4 controller can be used on a PS3, it has been revealed.
A YouTube video from Udetto has revealed that using a USB connection allows the new controller to work with some games.
However, it doesn't operate properly when disconnected from the USB, meaning that some games which require a wireless connection - including FIFA - won't work.
Sony confirmed that the controller will offer basic functions on Windows PCs, including buttons and analogue sticks.
It was recently revealed that Sony tested different stick layouts, including an asymmetrical design as seen on Xbox controllers.
The PlayStation 4 will be available from November 15 in North America and November 29 in Europe.
Sony originally planned to ship each console with a PlayStation Camera, but scrapped the idea in order to offer a £349 ($399) price point.
