Fire-breathers, contortionists, snake charmers and hunky dancers welcomed Britney Spears to the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, in a staged event to kick off the pop star's two-year Las Vegas residency.
One street of the Strip was briefly shut down as Spears made her way to the casino in a convoy of black Cadillac Escalades.
Her show debuts on December 27, just in time for Sin City's massive New Year crowds. She will perform 50 shows each in 2014 and 2015, performing her top hits and more recent material. Casino bosses say her residency could be extended if it is a success.
Wearing a black cocktail dress with a rhinestone top, Spears, who was 32 on Monday, signed autographs for some of the 1,000-plus fans who came to see her arrival. She told the crowd that Las Vegas was now her town, then left after a few minutes to catch a plane to her home in Los Angeles.
Her show will take place in a relatively small theatre with nightclub touches, including table and bottle service.
Spears has released seven platinum-plus albums since she debuted on the music scene in 1999. She has more than a dozen Top 10 hits, including Toxic, Gimme More and Oops! ... I Did It Again.
Her eighth album, Britney Jean, was released this week, but reviews were tepid.
David Hoenemeyer, president of Planet Hollywood, said the star had a bigger following than any other musician playing on the Strip.
"She really cuts across all demographics. She has a remarkable following, and the ticket sales reflect that," he said. "It's a really big deal to have a star of her calibre performing for us."

Ben Stiller has admitted he had a nightmare nobody would show up to support him as he placed his handprints in cement in Hollywood.
The Zoolander star was joined by his friend Tom Cruise for the prestigious ceremony in front of the TCL Chinese Theatre and he confessed the Mission Impossible star was an insurance policy to make sure he got a good turnout.
Speaking after he placed his hands and feet in wet cement and signed his name, Ben said: "I was very nervous, it is one of those things you get a little bit tight for because it is a once-in-a-lifetime thing that you don't want to screw up.
"I kind of did OK think, I could maybe have made my name a touch smaller, I almost ran out of space. But to just look out there and see the faces of the friends and family who showed up and that people actually came is nice, you have that nightmare that nobody is going to show up but I had the Tom Cruise insurance policy which was great."
Welcoming Ben out on to the stage ahead of the ceremony, Tom paid tribute to his old friend.
"I know Ben and I know what it takes to do what he does and the commitment that he brings, the love of cinema, the love of storytelling and the love of entertaining an audience. When you see his movies you have no idea how much this man cares."
In his speech to the audience, the Reality Bites director said: "This is like a weird surreal dream, I am here at the Chinese theatre, I'm getting my handprints in cement, Tom Cruise is there, Michael Jordan comes out and does a slam dunk over a ..... (article cut to save bandwidth)
Pop singer Miley Cyrus and the trial of boyfriend-killer Jodi Arias dominated Yahoo's online searches in 2013, the web search engine said on Tuesday, while rapper-producer duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis dominated music streams on Spotify.
Cyrus, 21, generated the most overall searches on Yahoo this year, overtaking reality television personality Kim Kardashian, who topped the list last year.
Cyrus has had an attention-filled 2013, in which she grabbed headlines for her breakup with actor-fiance Liam Hemsworth, danced provocatively on stage at the MTV Video Music Awards in August, and released her new album "Bangerz" in October.
The murder trial of 33-year-old Arias, who was found guilty in May of killing her boyfriend Travis Alexander at his Phoenix-area home, captivated the public over five months with bizarre testimony and graphic sexual evidence, helping it become the most searched news item on Yahoo.
Arias' trial was followed on Yahoo by the Affordable Care Act and its common name "Obamacare," which were counted as one search term, as the second most-searched news story, while the Boston Marathon bombing in April came in third.
President Barack Obama was the top-searched political figure, topping ailing Nelson Mandela, the former South African president, at No. 2, and former Alaska governor and Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin at No. 3.
While Cyrus topped Yahoo's overall searches, R&B singer Beyonce topped Microsoft's Bing search engine as the most-searched person, while Kardashian's first child, daughter North West she had with rapper Kanye West, topped Ask.com's top celebrity search terms.
Online music-streaming site Spotify also released its 2013 year in review on Tuesday and named Seattle's rapper-producer duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis as the year's most-streamed artist.
The pair have seen their career skyrocket this year as their debut album ..... (article cut to save bandwidth)

Pop star Katy Perry says becoming a goodwill ambassador for the UN children's agency has made her realise that there is more to happiness than material possessions and social status.
She said that on her first trip for Unicef, to the impoverished Indian Ocean island nation of Madagascar in April, she was moved by "the incredible joy" of the children despite the difficulties many faced - and that inspired her to write the song Unconditionally.
"It really kind of reprioritised my thinking, and my whole approach on life, and how to find my own joy and my own happiness that isn't being from material possessions and social status," Perry said.
