Photos published in a tabloid magazine this week showing AKB48′s Minami Minegishi leaving the residence of a member of boy band Generations have resulted in her demotion, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Feb. 1).

The photos, which appeared in Shukan Bunshun (Feb. 8), show the 20-year-old pop idol, wearing a white breathing mask and hat, near the doorway and walking on the sidewalk outside the apartment building, located in Setagaya Ward, of 19-year-old dancer Aran Shirahama on the morning of January 17.

AKB48 management announced that Minegishi would be demoted to trainee level as punishment for the disturbance caused by the scandal. The reprimand is effective from February 1.

Minegishi is a first-generation member of the idol unit, which started in 2005. The group has a strict policy about non-fraternization with members of the opposite sex.

The magazine hit newsstands on Thursday. In a four-minute clip posted on YouTube (see below) at 5:00 p.m. that day, Minegishi provided a tearful apology to her fans, the other members of AKB48, staff members, and her family.

“As a senior member, it is my responsibility to be a role model to younger members,” said Minegishi, dressed in a white shirt and with her black hair shaved. “My behavior was inexcusable, a thoughtless act that was totally lacking in self-awareness of what it means to be a senior member.”

Along with saying that the cutting of her hair was an initial reaction to seeing the magazine, she also expressed her desire to remain on the AKB48 roster.

Being demoted to a Kenkyuusei is better than being kicked out, I guess. Although seeing how Sasshi was treated, I doubt Miichan would've been kicked out. She really didn't need to shave her head though >____>

Also sucks that Takamina is getting flamed for this ;3;

I don't follow jpop (more of a jrock kinda girl) but man, non-fraternization with the opposite sex is part of their contract? And I thought the hate that IU got for her scandal was harsh enough. Being an idol in Asia is hard. I wouldn't want to do it. =(

People are saying that Takamina is being biased towards Miichan. When Yonechan and Nacchan left AKB because of their boyfriend scandal, Takamina said something like "We are not normal girls so we should respect the rules" (meaning the no-boyfriend rule).

Now that Miichan is breaking the same rule, Takamina said she will give Miichan her support.

So people are saying that Takamina as a general manager shouldn't be biased even if Miichan is her best friend.

I haven't looked yet, but I heard she got lots of flaming comments on her blog. People over at 2ch are also making a big deal out of this.

That's really...out of place. From what I see, what she supports is Miichan's courage for owing up to the consequences caused by her actions, not the scandal itself since I also don't deny the fact that Miichan was wrong for breaking the rule, not for having boyfriend.

I don't really know where to stand on that. From a friend's perspective, it's not wrong to say "I'll support you!" to your best friend when she's at the bottom of her career.

But I can also see where the other fans are coming from. Yonechan and Nacchan resigned on their own as a punishment; Miichan shaved her head. All of them recieved some type of punishment. It's not like Nacchan and Yonechan did anything Miichan didn't do so if Takamina didn't support them, then she shouldn't publicly say she supports Miichan.

There's obviously some bias, but I don't want to say it's Takamina's fault because she's just being a good friend.

If she didn't support Nacchan she wouldn't have been at the small gathering awhile they had after Nacchan had resigned from the group. But others have their own reasons to be critical about it and I understand where they're coming from so I won't discuss this anymore.
On another serious note, as if Miichan's scandal isn't already enough, Tomochin has just announced that she will be graduating within this year. Not that I'm surprised about this since she's been giving off that vibe for over a year now, it's just that too many things happening at once to 1st gens and it's just the beginning of the year too.
Now we're down to 4 left.

Not even surprised about Tomochin. Expected her to be the next one after Acchan.

As for Miichan, I still don't think it's necessary to shave her head. Maybe they'll promote her again after her hair grows out? But for now I hope they promote some Kenkyuuseis so they can stop borrowing my SKE/NMB/HKT members... >__>

Or even better, they can let the teams become 16 again.

I guess she's feeling really bad about the whole thing so shaving her head was possibly the only way she thinks that would show that she's sincerely sorry for what had happened. I find it a little extreme too but don't forget that this is Japan we're talking about. I think what's ridiculous is how some fans couldn't accept this at all. They assumed that she was forced by the agency to shave her head, or that Alan (the dude) is a coward for not coming forward to say something. I don't know about you, but what I do know is that, we don't know what goes on in there. We don't work for either agencies, we don't know Miichan or Alan personally. Putting the blame on the guy is not going to bring Miichan back to where she's before. The fact that she shaved her head shows that she knew that she has broken the rule. LDH isn't agency that markets idols and certainly do not control what their artistes do in their private lives. So that guy didn't break any rule.

Annoyed at people who don't fully understand the situation before jumping at each other throat's.

Miichan already said it was her own idea to shave her head and she didn't tell anybody about it beforehand.

I understand that she shaved her head as a type of punishment to herself, but I don't really see how it helps the whole situation. Taking a temporarily leave and coming back as a Kenkyuusei would've been more effective.

... but I guess doing this gives her more exposure. Lots of random people (especially on tumblr) are throwing around Miichan support posts. They're even planning to mass vote to boost her ranking for the next Sousenkyo. And that's a really wrong way to show support.

(not saying she shaved her head just for the exposure, but it's really bringing her more support than she's ever had)

I doubt she shaved her head out of her own.
And having to shame herself on youtube because mainly the AKB48 fan base is a group of lonely men who want them to be virginal pure little angels just to satisfy their own perverse imagination upsets me.

I am really weirded out by this entire occurrence and it really does shine a really bad light on Japan i think.
Did they go backwards in civilization when it comes to women? to push a young girl to shave her head to show she's sorry?

A lot of others are seeing it for what it is and the video is getting flagged like hell on youtube.
"Sl*t shaming" a 20 year old girl/young adult for simply spending the night with a guy?

My mind is just.. I'm full of wt.
This is going to be on German news sooner or later i just know it since this is pure wtf to us

If she broke her contract fine.. you then either give them a warning or fire them.
You don't shame them into shaving their head bald and crying in a youtube vid.

Allot of the Dutch commentary was along the lines of ''Shaming adult girl for POSSIBLY having sex'' And ''Sharia law now also in Japan?''

Haven't seen it on German news yet

wat's wrong wif leaving the residence of a member of boy band? Is she caught sleeping with that guy or wat? I tot japs are very open minded about sex n sum of the AKB48 became pornstars r ok. Why suddenly tis become not ok? She may be a fren of that guy, nobody know.

Even HK not as open minded as Japs r perfectly fine wif raymond being caught sleeping wif a gul.

I doubt she shaved her head out of her own.

Actually it's not surprising she shaved her head on her own. When an idol gets caught with a guy they are (almost) always fired in the Japanese idol industry. Miichan probably shaved her head because she was scared she'd get fired. I still don't think it's necessary though because seeing how management has been bending the rules lately, I don't think anything would've happened to her.

And having to shame herself on youtube because mainly the AKB48 fan base is a group of lonely men who want them to be virginal pure little angels just to satisfy their own perverse imagination upsets me.

It's not just AKB or whatnot. Japan's idols are not allowed to date at all. That includes both male idols and female idols.

P.S.: Statistics show that AKB's fanbase is not just "a group of lonely men". Their fanbase is actually roughly 50% male, 50% female.

The Japanese might be more open-minded, but not for their idols. Idols are supposed to carry a pure image and they supposedly serve as a role model for younger children (who also want to be idols...).

AKB48 aren't pornstars. Once a member graduates, they no longer have a contract with the management. Pretty sure I told you this before.

And the fact that Miichan shaved her head and made that youtube video implies that she and that guy were not "just friends". Something was probably going on between them.

It appears that Miichan shaved her head herself?

Togasaki (general manager for the 48 groups) Google+ post:

I heard her head was already shaved when she came out of the make-up room. The staff tried to stop her, but she really wanted to reflect on her own actions so she took the scissors and cut her bangs.

Source

Management also private-ed the video of Miichan apologizing on youtube. It was generating too much negativity.

idk about this group but i really don't feel bad for her because she still wants to be in the group and be in the company. I did some research and there was a member named Masuda Yuka who withdrew from the group due to similiar scandal.

but in the end sex sells, and they want to make them appear available. its like if she dates, the fans (male fans) will stop supporting them, leading them to lose sales. which means the company won't make as much money.

oh yeah the group really portrays an innocent image. them posing in a bikini and lying on the floor with a seductive look. Posted Image yeah okay. kinda contradicting in a way

i think its kinda of sad she is going through all this negativity for it while the guy she was caught in this scandal literally just sits back and watches. he gave an apology and that was it Posted Image

Actually, it's kind of the opposite xD If Miichan didn't make such a big deal out of this (shaving her head and all), then this would've passed by as "just another scandal". I actually feel more sorry for the guy because he's getting all types of blackslash now whereas Miichan is getting more support than she's ever had before.

The scandal didn't affect Minegishi that much and her fans are still supporting her in the theater. No dating is a rule to idol groups, as someone mentioned above.

This thing is too normal in Japanese culture, not only apply for AKB48. And not only in Japan but look at some Korean girl groups, also have shorts until-can't-be-shorter and innocent image. Innocent and sexy can go together there so don't feel strange.

I'm seriously disgusted after reading the news.... it's like, suddenly it's clear that Japan is not that far away from islamic countries when it comes to the way of treating women........ seriously, wtf.

You're kidding, right?

Shaving her head is extreme and yes, management is wrong for making that video for her, but you're using this as an example to say "Japan is not that far away from islamic countries"? People (men and women) shave their heads all the time in Japan to show they are sorry. It's just that no one actually cares and it doesn't make it onto the news because they're not a famous pop idol like Miichan is. It has nothing to with how they treat women or what-not.

Okay and for the last time, she shaved her head on her own. It's been said by management and other members said they saw her do it. Plus if you know how Miichan is, her doing something like this is not entirely out of question.

Anyway, scandal is over now. Miichan is performing with AKB again and she will be participating in the elections this year. If anything, this scandal actually benefited her because she's getting all types of support from people now.

Ok, that I didn't know. I thought she was made to do it.
