Zaizai diligently learning dual-language of Taiwanese and Japanese for “Return Home”, afraid it will be wasted efforts
China Times, May 11, 2010
http://showbiz.china...wbiz-news-cnt/0
http://news.msn.com....ews1700673.aspx

Translated by sytwo at VIC/ AF

In order to participate in epic drama “Return Home”, Zaizai Zhou Yumin have been diligently learning Taiwanese and Japanese. But fans are worried that since the drama is a Taiwan/ Mainland collaboration, it will be redubbed before airing in China and Zaizai's efforts will be all wasted. Producer Virginia Liu said “The drama will not be re-dubbed, otherwise we would not have asked Zaizai to work hard learning Japanese and Taiwanese. Fans do not need to worry.”

Virginia Liu said that the dramas that she films always does live recording of the sound and broadcast with the original voice. She has never filmed a drama that is re-dubbed and that is why Zaizai needs to work hard learning the languages. The drama will start filming in Mainland at the end of this month, but the crew has kept the leading actress a secret. Netizens have enthusiastically taken things into their own hands and named that the leading lady candidate may be Ady An, Shu Qi or Yao Cai Ying. According to what is reported (or is known), besides the confirmation of Mainland award-winning actor Wang Xue Qi as part of the main cast, other cast members have not been confirmed.

Zaizai's manager Zhi Xiang Li said he is not sure if there will be re-dubbing before the drama is broadcast, but during filming they will definitely be doing live recording of the sound. Currently Zaizai is studying the script and getting into the role, and has also been frequently listening to the Japanese recording in MP3 by his language teacher, working hard to learn the script.

Li Guoyi is excited to work hand-in-hand with Zaizai in "Home"
June 8, 2010
Original is China Times news :
http://showbiz.china...0800033,00.html

Translated by Sytwo@VIC and AF

Summarized translation
- Lego Li recently boldly posted in his blog “Can I go home” with you which made his fans blush and say “yes”. But actually he was referring to the epic drama “Home” where he will be acting as Zaizai's younger brother. He said that previously he was told he has some resemblance to Zaizai, and this time being able to act opposite Zaizai whom he respect and admire, he feels excited and nervous.
- Since debut, Lego Li Guoyi has acted as male lead or major role. Virginia who is the producer and also his manager specifically asked him: "In this drama Zai Zai is the main protagonist, will you mind? If unhappy, do not take the role! He who has been known to be cocky and self-confident, has high esteem for Zaizai and not only immediately agreed to participate, even said " I am honored to have the opportunity to participate. " He said he has the “face of the masses”, often described as Richie Ren, Edison Chen, Jimmy Lin, and Zai Zai, and can play the younger brother of either of them.
- Before "ruffian hero", he felt that Zai Zai is a "very popular idol," but after watching Zai Zai's performance in the drama, he sees that ZZ has evolved into a mature, powerful actor, especially when he saw Zai Zai was accepting foreign media interviews during the "ruffian hero" promotions, he feels respect and admiration for him. He was very excited to perform together with ZZ but was warned by the production company not leak the news, so he can only post a mystery message in his blog.
- For the Home Drama, Zai Zai is diligently learning Japanese and Taiwanese, and Lego Li who plays his brother is also receiving training in Taiwanese. Producer Virginia Liu said that “For this drama, Zai Zai has done a lot of homework. In addition watching many era/ period dramas and studying the script, the deep level of reflection and thinking that he has with it made her “astounded/ frightened”.

Zhou Yumin wearing mask arrive in Shanghai for new drama, Fan Bingbing suspected as leading lady
July 22, 2010
Translated by Sytwo @ VIC / AF.

http://pic.yule.sohu...23907&p=2004324

Sohu Entertainment News Shanghai reported that on July 22, Zhou Yumin arrived in Shanghai to get ready for new drama "home", many well-informed fans went to the airport. When Zai Zai appeared, fans surrounded him. Zaizai was in a very good mood yesterday and laughed happily when he heard greetings from fans. At the parking lot Zai Zai did not forget to remind the fans to take care and pay attention to railing bars behind them, the atmosphere was very intimate/ close. It was reported that the rumoured leading lady Ady An do not have any schedule, and the drama's heroine is still not determined. But Zai Zai arrival was received by Fan Bingbing's manager/ agent Mu Xiaoguang and her studio team. Do not know whether this implies that the leading lady will be Fan Bingbing. If it is this will be Zaizai's 2nd collaboration with FBB after Jin Da Ban.

Vic Zhou crazily studying Japanese for "Returning Home" drama role as doctor

Sunday September 19, 2010 Taiwan
News source :http://udn.com/NEWS/ENTERTAINMENT/ENT7/5857619.shtml
Translation by yingliang/ sytwo @ http://asianfanatics.net / VIC[/b]

Filming for Vic Zhou's new drama "Returning Home" is just around the corner and the first batch of cast list is out, including Wang Que Qi, Yang Kuei-mei, Zhang Chen-Guang and Liu De-kai, full of big, authoritative stars. Zaizai will be playing a military doctor and will be sporting a "七分頭"* short hairstyle on screen, the shortest since his debut. After last year's Golden Bell award disappointment, Vic hopes to be affirmed by the public with <Home> under the accompaniment of so many skillful actors.

After completing "Black and White", Vic has decided not to accept any more roles in pure romance idol dramas. In the past half-year, he has only shot the film "Love you ten thousand years", rejecting almost 20 drama offers from both Taiwan and China, putting his focus in preparing for <Returning Home>.

The drama is about the story of Zaizai who received medical-training in Taiwan, and was sent by the Japanese army to Mainland China in 1945 during the Sino-Japanese War as a Taiwanese- Japanese military doctor**. He went through suffering until the victory of China over Japan, but due to his identity as part of the Japanese army, he was unable to return home (to Taiwan). Throughout the drama he will be tested on his deep emotional/ psyche acting, with heavy cross-scenes together with Wang Xue Qi who portrays a Kuomintang General.

Vic has been painstakingly learning Japanese for this drama, and the film crew arranged a doctor to train him on the proper use of stethoscope and scalpel of 60 years ago. Zaizai's manager Mr Chih said that when Zaizai chooses a role he does not consider winning awards but only care about whether there is unceasing growth. Thus he is looking forward to this drama for the opportunity to work with so many skillful and experienced actors.

- End –

'*七分頭 is a type of hairstyle. Not sure how to translate this. Literal translation is "seven-parted head/ hair"
** During the Sino-Japanese war, Taiwan was under the rule of Japan and many Taiwanese were sent as soldier/ military doctors for the Japanese army

Another translation of the same news as above :

Vic Chou studying Japanese for latest drama role as doctor
Written by: Pauli on 9/19/2010 @ CpopAccess.com
News source : http://udn.com/NEWS/...7/5857619.shtml

After declining the chance to continue his role for the movie version of previous hit drama "Black & White", and losing out on the lead role for the production-troubled "Killer Never Kills", things are looking bright again with production beginning for Vic Chou's latest drama "Returning Home / Pacific 1949".

In Vic's latest drama, he will play a Taiwanese-Japanese military doctor during the tumultous East Asian conflicts of the mid-20th century. According to reports, the singer-turned-actor will shorten his idol haircut even more to fall in line with the military hair style required for the role. Vic hopes that his latest acting role will once again bring redemption to his acting ambition.

Since the completion of hit Taiwanese police drama "Black & White", Vic vowed not to do purely romantic idol dramas, and has only filmed for the Chinese movie "Love you Ten Thousand Years" within the past half year. To further his commitment for the drama "Returning Home", Vic has declined roles for approximately twenty dramas from both mainland China and Taiwan.

Vic's role as a medical doctor in his latest drama required knowledge of the practices performed by Japanese military doctors during the mid-20th century. In order to fully capture the accuracy of the role, the film crew arranged training for Vic in the use of medical equipment such as stethoscopes and scapels. Furthermore, Vic has been studying up Japanese in order to portray the fluency of Japanese by Taiwanese whom were drafted into the Japanese military during the time period.

Vic Chou will be "returning home" with Janine Chang in new drama
Written by: PA on 9/28/2010 @ CpopAccess.com

The big news yesterday at the 2010 Taipei Television Festival was most definitely GTV’s adaptation of “Hayate the Combat Butler”. But not to be outdone, local idols led by Vic Chou also proved to be very popular with participants from the TV industry. His upcoming wartime drama “回家 (Returning Home)” quickly caught the media's attention with the announcement of Janine Chang (張鈞甯) as his costar.

The two will reunite for a third time after last year’s hit “Black and White” and the movie “Tea Fight (鬪茶)”. Although Vic Chou has long been attached to the project, Janine Chang came as a surprise since there hasn’t been any news of her involvement previously. Due to its sensitive subject matter, the big-budget production is still pending approval from the mainland.

There was another piece of interesting news concerning Vic Chou at the festival – His name was mentioned for “The Taipei Shop of Coffee Prince” (yes, it’s a remake) which Jerry Yan was said to have dropped out earlier. Unfortunately this could be purely a case of who the producers want rather than who they are able to cast.

There were other (failed) casting news at the festival -- Producer Shen Shi Hua (沈時華) had hoped to cast Van Ness Wu and Vivian Hsu in the drama “瑰寶 (The Artifacts)”, but was turned down for obvious reasons. Two other dramas listed rumored ex-couple Tammy Chen and Li Wei as the leads. Chen’s manager responded on the pairing, “Not possible.”

Source: Appledaily, Chinatimes

Some extra news information not covered in news above :

- About the drama pending approval, it has already receive clearance by the PRC state council office for Taiwan affairs and now waiting for Mainland Censorship board (Apple).
(sytwo - This looks like a China government body that looks into Taiwan affairs. Looks like the drama already went through a pretty strict scrutiny. No wonder it took so long. My guess is that it will be easier to pass PRC Censorship Board now cuz they have started promoting the drama in both Beijing and Taipei tv festival)
- UDN reported that although the cast for Home did not appear at the taiwan TV festival but its popularity was still very high. Besides the strong cast line-up, the touching storyline is also a main selling point.
- after being very low profile of the lead actress, the Home poster boldly printed Janine's name as part of the cast.
- Apple also said that Janine stated yesterday that she did not decline B&W movie but instead the movie script did not include her character (I am guessing the Apple reporter could have contacted Janine after the news of her starring in Home came out).

Zai Zai acts ugly in new drama to transform image, being too handsome can be very annoying
October 2, 2010
Source : Article by Ah-Xia of Apple Daily
http://tw.nextmedia....ssueID/20101002
Translated by sytwo at VIC/ AF

Big handsome guy Zaizai is weary of being a flower beautiful boy, and in recent years has seek to make transformation, whether in "Black and White" where he lies among garbage looking filthy and full of grime, or in "Love you ten thousand years" where he sported a beard and played the fool.

Plan to put a scar on the face

Ah-Xia heard that yesterday he set off to Shanghai to film a new drama, "Home", as soon as he reported to the crew he was being disfigured. The director complained that his face is too attractive/ charming, and do not have the feel/ effect of a great change needed for the lead male role, and said that no matter what must put a large long scar on his face.

Ai…..Ah-Xia feels like previously Zaizai is like a prince charming from a manga storybook. As long as he dresses handsomely, with stars shining in his eyes, tens of thousands of fans at home and abroad will be utterly charmed. But now, unexpectedly his face has turned into his greatest burden. Ah-Xia guess that every year he must make a wish to become older quickly, and definitely fight against getting botox.

Zaizai) to laugh unceasingly (or uncontrollably), really "sorry" na ~ One more thing! Moths, mosquitoes, grasshoppers, and all those insects that I cannot name! Other people are filming and you are so busy! Not only stealing the camera shots, but also taking advantage to drill into people's clothes while they are busy shooting! Here is more historical background of Taiwan during Japan rule (1895-1945) and early era of Kuomintang rule (1945-1949) - the time period and political situation in which the "Home" drama is based on.

http://en.wikipedia....e_of_Japan_rule

(summarized/ edited from wikipedia)

Empire of Japan rule
Main articles: Taiwan under Japanese rule and Republic of Formosa

The Qing Dynasty was defeated in the First Sino-Japanese War (1894–1895) and Taiwan and Penghu were ceded in full sovereignty to the Empire of Japan. Inhabitants wishing to remain Qing subjects were given a two-year grace period to sell their property and move to mainland China. Very few Taiwanese saw this as feasible.[24]

On 25 May 1895, a group of pro-Qing high officials proclaimed the Republic of Formosa to resist impending Japanese rule. Japanese forces entered the capital at Tainan and quelled this resistance on 21 October 1895.[citation needed]

The Japanese rulers were instrumental in the industrialization of the island; they extended the railroads and other transportation networks, built an extensive sanitation system and revised the public school system. During this period, both rice and sugarcane production greatly increased. By 1939, Taiwan was the seventh greatest sugar producer in the world.[25] Still, the Taiwanese and Aborigines were classified as second- and third-class citizens. Large-scale violence continued in the first decade of rule. Japan launched over 160 battles to destroy Taiwan's aboriginal tribes during its 51-year rule of the island ...'[26] Around 1935, the Japanese began an island-wide assimilation project to bind the island more firmly to the Japanese Empire and people were taught to see themselves as Japanese. During World War II, tens of thousands of Taiwanese served in the Japanese military.[27] For example, former ROC President Lee Teng-hui's elder brother served in the Japanese navy and died while on duty in the Philippines in February 1945.

Taiwan under Empire of Japan rule ended after it lost World War II and signed the Instrument of Surrender of Japan on 14 August 1945. But the Japanese rule had long lasting effects on Taiwan and Taiwanese culture. Japanese pop culture is popular in Taiwan, influenced by the 50-year Japanese rule. Significant parts of Taiwanese infrastructure were started under the Japanese rule. The current Presidential Building was also built during that time. In 1938 there were 309,000 Japanese settlers in Taiwan.[28] After World War II, most of the Japanese were repatriated to Japan.

Republic of China rule
Main articles: Taiwan after World War II and History of the Republic of China#Republic of China on Taiwan (1949-present)
Kuomintang Martial Law Era
Main article: White Terror (Taiwan)

The Cairo Conference from 22 to 26 November 1943 in Cairo, Egypt was held to address the Allied position against Japan during World War II, and to make decisions about postwar Asia. One of the three main clauses of the Cairo Declaration was that "all the territories Japan has stolen from China, including Manchuria, Taiwan and the Pescadores, shall be restored to the Republic of China'.

On 25 October 1945, the US Navy ferried ROC troops to Taiwan in order to accept the formal surrender of Japanese military forces in Taipei (then called Taihoku). General Rikichi Andō, governor-general of Taiwan and commander-in-chief of all Japanese forces on the island, signed the instrument of surrender and handed it over to General Chen Yi of the RoC military to complete the official turnover.

Chen Yi proclaimed that day to be "Retrocession Day of Taiwan". The ROC administration of Taiwan under Chen Yi was strained by social and political instabilities, which were compounded by economic woes, such as hyperinflation. Furthermore, cultural and linguistic conflicts between Taiwanese and the mainland Chinese quickly led to the loss of popular support for the new government.[29]

This culminated in a series of severe clashes between the ROC occupiers and the Taiwanese, in turn leading to the 228 incident (an estimated 20,000-30,000 civilians were executed by the ROC Army) and the reign of White Terror.[30] During the White Terror, a period of the longest martial law in the world, over 38 years, was imposed and many, many thousands of Taiwanese were arrested, tortured, imprisoned and executed for their real or perceived opposition to the Kuomintang Party. Since these people were mainly from the intellectual and social elite an entire generation of political and social leaders was decimated. It was not until 2008 that a public apology was made for those actions. No form of restitution or compensation has ever been made (as of 2010).[31]

LOL! Mytika!
Thanks for posting those fan creations of Zaizai as the military doctor in Home drama. They sure look quite real hehehe!!

marshmallow
Yeah, I pray very very hard that the series won't be dubbed as what the producer originally promised way back in May. Well, one sharp-eyed fan spotted that in the latest pix posted by the female lead Yan Na, there is a BIG MIC hanging above the actors which is normally used for live voice recording. Cross my fingers......

I think Janine is the other female lead who is Vic's character childhood friend? The plot don't have the details. I guess there are 2 female leads - hope Janine still has lots of scenes with Vic.

CONGRATULATIONS for doing such a great favor to all ZZ fans and HOME fans. You've done a very great job in compiling these news articles and updates :yeah :yeah :yeah

yeah! I agree with you. Since ZZ has a great sexy voice, the production team must not make mistake on dubbing his voice or else many fans will be disappointed (including me!)

mytika
NICE pictures! It looks so real. ZZ is SHUAI there. :thumbsup

the only down side is ZZ should have more muscles to emphasize his body while wearing his lab gown but I don't think it's possible :V

Sytwo, Thanks for helping me a lot on posting and on improving the topic starter :hug

Mytika, thanks for posting the fan made pix of Military doctor ZZ :thumbsup . They all look so real. If I didn't know they were fan creations, I will really think they are real! hahaha... Can't wait to see how he will look like in this drama

marshmalloww, Me too!!! I hope ZZ's voice won't be dubbed. I have a feeling it won't be dubbed since his role here is a Taiwanese so maybe they will maintain ZZ's voice and accent. And also, he studied Taiwanese dialect and Japanese for this drama. What a waste if they will dub it...

I also like Janine :thumbsup Hope they will have many scenes together. But Yan Na looks like she's a bubbly girl.. maybe I'll like her too... Hope she post more pix about their shooting on her blog :yeah :yeah :yeah

I can't help but being a bit disappointed. When I first saw the news for this drama, it only mentioned Zai Zai and Janine. So I just assumed they'll be a couple, But it seem like Janine is the second female lead...sigh...not again..!

I don't like war time drama but I'll still be watching for Vic/Janine.

Vic and Janine collaborating again. If they were to be paired up together, I'd be more interested, but would still like to see how this goes.
It seems like Vic is going to be working really hard for this drama.
Learning Japanese too? Woww~ Cannot wait!

Picture of Zaizai shooting Home drama, secretly captured and reported in SOHU news.

Credit to KT110 at vicchou
http://pic.yule.sohu...35952&p=2161225

Summarized translation of short article
- report says that this is the first secret exposure of ZZ's picture filming Home. The drama has not been publicly promoted yet and the crew has been keeping the shooting closed and secret. The reporter captured the pix at a far distance.
- ZZ was filming alone without the leading lady "Ady An" (this reporter obviously did not do his homework as the leading ladies are Yan Na and Janine, not Ady). ZZ was filming a scene together with other extra actors, he was dressed sloppily, in a leather jacket and dirty pants and carrying a big bag, seemingly running away during war.
- the crew provided a trailer/ van for ZZ to rest in but ZZ rested at a bench with the rest of the cast, and did not show any big star attitude at all. During resting time, the make-up artiste was busily repairing ZZ's make up.

- end -

And here are the PIX of Dr. Su Tai Ying !

ZZ really looks the part esp the short hair and short side burns. But he looks tired......hope he is getting enough rest.

It reminded me of an old tv series - North and South which I think was taken from Robert Blake's novel Love and War.
I also thought that I dont like war time drama, but at such a young age I appreciated the series that I still remember it.

I can't help but being a bit disappointed. When I first saw the news for this drama, it only mentioned Zai Zai and Janine. So I just assumed they'll be a couple, But it seem like Janine is the second female lead...sigh...not again..!I don't like war time drama but I'll still be watching for Vic/Janine.

200% agree with you, oh gosh I hope Janine will be the 1st lead actress.

Humm Do Sytwo, ECenterprise, Ilovic ,or does anyone else, know the synopsis without spoiling the interest of the drama?

China Times (6 November 2010)
News summary

- Zaizai has started filming new series “Home” in Chedun Shanghai since end September. Unexpectedly in October, the bombing incident of Selina (SHE) at the same filming site and DaS engagement, suddenly made Zaizai the focus of media attention.

- Concerning DaS love relationship, Zaizai always given his blessing and not express his opinion, and this time it is also no exception. So far ZZ has not given any response.

- ZZ took leave from the Home crew to participate in a product endorsement activity in Jiangxi province, cities of Shangrao and Fuzhou. He returned to Shanghai Pudong airport on Oct 31 and looked tired. Though there were quite a number of fans who gathered there, he did not say anything and left with his manager after collecting the luggage.

- According to the staff and crew, DaS is also in Shanghai filming a movie, only 40 minutes away. But both are busy and have not been in contact. Whenever ZZ has any free time, he will be spending it with Wang Xue Qi whom he has the most scenes with, discussing and asking Wang about the script and role.

- TV series "Home" takes place during the end of China-Japan war. Zai Zai plays a medical doctor who received education in Taiwan. In 1945 he was sent by the Japanese to the mainland as the Japanese military doctor. He witnessed life and death during that period; after the end of the war, he thought it was the end of the nightmare and he will be able to go back to Taiwan, but because he was regarded as the enemy, he was made prisoner of war and could not return home.

- Because the drama is set during war-era, there will naturally be war scenes. The crew said that since ZZ reported to work for one month he has already filmed a number of small explosion scenes. But on Nov 7,8,9 it will be the first large-scale shooting war scenes. The Chedun film site recently occur the injury incident involving Selina, so everyone including the cast, crew and management firm are a little apprehensive about this explosion scene.

- Zai Zai's manager said that normally during filming, artiste will have insurance coverage of NT10million. This time the management increased the coverage for unexpected accidents so that the personal safety of Zai Zai has more protection.
- It is said that "Home" director and crew are also especially cautious, reminding the crew responsible for the blasting scene to look into every detail and cannot make any mistakes.

- Zai Zai who sported a short flat hair was photographed by the media with melancholic expression. ZZ's manager said that this time, the role that ZZ plays is very different both in comparison to idol dramas and also in ZZ's outer appearance. The character's personality is relatively despondent, with a lot of inner emotion scenes. This is also the reason he insisted on performing (this role).

- In addition, the drama gathered many strong veteran big-name actors from China and Taiwan, all of them are the first collaboration with Zai Zai, including Wang Xue Qi, Yang Gui-mei, Zhang Chen Guang and Liu De-kai, so it is like on-the-job training at the film site, learning from all these veteran actors. It is equal to free training through a brilliant acting class, which made Zai Zai very excited.

- Zai Zai excitedly said that he has a lot of scenes with Wang Xue Qi who plays the Kuomintang general. Through working together with Wang, ZZ found that Wang is a very nice person and also has a good sense of humor, so every day during filming, he will chat with Wang whenever there is free time, asking him for guidance on the script, role and performance positioning in the scene etc., gaining a lot (from the interaction with Wang).

- In the past few days, ZZ also has a lot of scenes with Zhang Chen Guang. Not only did the filming go smoothly, there was also great chemistry, which gave ZZ a feeling of extreme saturation (incisive and vivid).

- end -

Spoiler

=================================================================

Some picture update of Yan Na and Yang Gui Mei for their roles in Home. Yan Na is Jiang Wen, the general's (Wang Xue Qi) daughter who fell in love with Zaizai's character. Yang Gui Mei is a veteran award winning actress from Taiwan and stars as Yan Nan/ Jiang Wen's mom and the general's wife.

News Summary :

Pix 1 :
"Home" drama was shooting the Japanese retreat scene yesterday in Shanghai. The bombing and shooting scene at the film site was very astonishing. Zai Zai (in red circle) got frightened and hid behind the truck

- Zaizai was “impacted” by the lighting marriage event of DaS, besides canceling media visit to the Home drama site, the bombing scene was also brought forward and started shooting yesterday. Although ZZ has become F4 first brother, he still arrived at the site at 7.00am.
- Zaizai was wearing a military uniform, looking all filthy like a tramp, after the bombing the air was full of thick black smoke, fully covering ZZ's face. ZZ who already has a cold and was coughing, now becomes a body full of oil and smoke.

Head and face filthy with grime
- Zaizai plays a Taiwanese who was sent by the Japanese to China in 1945 as a military doctor during the China-Japan war.
- But when the war ended with China's victory, due to the sensitivity of his position, he was not accepted.
- Zaizai put on a military uniform at the filming yesterday. China actor Wang Xue Qi who plays the general, was affected by the bombs during the scene. Zaizai jumped down from the truck to help him.

Sports moustache, self-destructing handsome face. Take up 10 million Insurance
- Both ZZ and Wang personally acted in the bombing scenes without using a substitute actor.
- The first bombing scene occurred NG due to the extra actors and Zaizai reshot the scene once again. His facial expression was totally absorbed into the scene.
- Previously it was reported that the director thinks ZZ looks too handsome and refined, besides asking him to sport a moustache, the director also requested for a scar to be drawn on ZZ's face.
- But yesterday there was no scar on his face. ZZ's manager Mr Chih later said that they were filming the early stages of the war, so the scar is not there yet.
- Due to the bombing incident involving Selina earlier, the crew was extra careful and also took up a NTD10million insurance for Zaizai. They were also very cautious, not allowing fans and media to approach near.

- Everything Zaizai starts filming, he will enter into a state of “ignoring the things of the world”. Even the near distance to ex-girlfriend DaS did not effect his frame of mind.

- Daniel Lee (Lee Li Ren) has once again “abandoned” wife and children for filming, playing Zaizai's older brother in the drama. Both he and Zaizai has very heavy scenes together.

- End -

An onslaught of news and pictures about Home bombing scenes and Zaizai in military costume, all bloodied and dirty – a very sorry-looking and despondent figure (google translate somehow wrongly translate this as “embarrass” or “awkward”).

The media must have shot all these pix with a long range camera. It's great to finally see lots of media coverage about Home drama at last cuz it was totally quiet for so long. (though it was rather annoying to unrelated gossip news in all these reports). Right now at PTT (taiwan big discussion forum) there is already discussion about the Home news and interest is increasing about Home drama esp after the bombing scenes and also cast list were exposed. Hope we get more and more Home drama news in the near future up to it being aired.

Vic Chou refuses stunt double for explosion scenes

Posted Image
Vic & Li Li-Ren chatting happily away

Sources: UDN, 163 for photo
Written by: Zahra @ CpopAccess.com

After the disastrous accident for Selina during filming, many actors are becoming more cautious and using more stunt doubles. However, this is not the case with Vic Chou. For his newest drama "回家 (Returning Home)", Vic insisted on not using a stuntman even during a scene with explosives going off right under his feet. The crew were all impressed by his dedication, however, they admitted to breaking out in cold sweat over worrying for him.

With the Sino-Japanese War as the background for "Returning Home", there has already been five straight days of filming with explosives. As the filming location is fairly large, there were more than a hundred explosion points setup. One wrong step could set off the explosives and cause great damage. Despite this, whenever there was down time, Vic and Li Li-Ren (Vic's older brother in the series) chatted and laughed away.

Posted Image

According to Vic's manager, it's not that Vic doesn't understand the dangers as he was required to attend a class demonstrating the power of the explosives. It was because he wanted to be professional about it. Due to Selina's tragic accident, not only was Vic insured for up to NT$100million, an explosives expert was brought in to demonstrate the powers of the explosives to all the actors and every actors was tested multiple times about where the explosives were placed before actually turning the explosives on.

To create a realistic Chinese version of the "Normandy, France airdrop", the production went all out and bought multiple kinds of explosives. In one scene, Vic had loose soil at his feet that would be scattered as the explosives went off. But not to worry, it didn't hurt, it was just dirty.

Vic even joked that there was no need to act during the explosion scenes since there was a natural reaction of panic and desire to run away as soon as the sound of the explosion went off. It was completely instinct. Even the crew complimented him as they had originally pegged him as a "flower boy idol," and didn't expect him to personally "go into battle" or feel that the makeup artist didn't make him dirty enough. Before filming, Vic would take the dirt on the floor and smear it onto his face and neck, letting the dirt fill up even his fingernails for the sake of a realistic effect.

Hello!
Been awhile since the last update for Home drama. Today is already the new year 2011. And I am reminded again that one of the reason for the conception Home drama is to commemorate the 100 years of Taiwan Republic of China which was formed in 1911. Home drama will capture the significant period around 1949 when ROC shifted from China to Taiwan after the end of Sino-Japan war and later the Communist party took over China.

The cast and crew has been filming non-stop in Shanghai. Weibo updates from cast and crew says that they have been filming day and night, up to 5.00am sometimes, with two crews (A and B) working at the same time. The cast and crew from Taiwan also went to Shanghai Che Dun film site for filming - most likely they are filming indoor Taiwan scenes in Che Dun as it has all the facilities and will later go back to Taiwan to film the outdoor ones. Filming should complete by end-January.

Here's a first look at the Pacific 1949 ship - the sinking of this ship as it sails from Shanghai to Keelung, Taiwan will be the climax of the drama.

Posted Image

Credit to the person who built the ship who posted this on his weibo - he appears to be a props director from Taipei

The ship looks really impressive - a big investment! Looking forward to see how the sinking ship scene will be filmed.

Zai Zai in the new drama "Home", set at the time of anti-Japanese war, was a Taiwanese military doctor drafted by the Japanese Military and sent to the Mainland. The story spans across both banks (Taiwan & Mainland). Originally, the drama’s dialogue had Mandarin, Japanese and Taiwanese dialect. But there were news yesterday that the Mainland version will not have Mǐnnányǔ (dialect). Zai Zai’s initial painstaking efforts to memorize his lines in dialect have come to naught. His manager Mr. Chih said yesterday “We’ll respect the producer’s decision, only worried that substitution of the Taiwanese dialogue with Mandarin will lose some of the original flavor."

"Home" original arrangement was that Zai Zai will speak Mandarin during the period of the Mainland war, speaks Japanese when in military compounds, then post-war he speaks Taiwanese after he returned home. During the filming of this drama, besides having to run under the hail of bullets and gunfire, and have to portray heavy psychological misery, speaking 3 languages is also a big challenge.

Why can’t Mǐnnányǔ be used in the drama? The producers explained yesterday that all Mainland’s works do not allow dialect. Japanese is a foreign language, not a dialect, and does not constitute a major portion of the dialogue. But Zai Zai’s efforts are not totally lost; Taiwan version will still have dialect.

"Home" cost nearly 200 million NTD to shoot. Zai Zai’s performance is a new transformation which stunned several high-level people in Mainland and Taiwan. The drama is expected to be launched in Mainland China in May.

When Mr. Chih found out that the Mainland version will replace Taiwanese dialogue with Mandarin, he asked curiously, “During dubbing, how is Zai Zai going to differentiate his voice between the mainland period and Taiwan period?" The other person laughed and said: "This is not difficult, just say Taiwan guóyǔ ah! “ (mispronouncing国语(national language)) In the past, Zai Zai who did not speak Mandarin clearly, would never have dreamed that there will come a day when he will be requested to be “inarticulate”.

But whether it is standard Mandarin or "Taiwan Mandarin," this will be Zai Zai’s first performance in a Mainland drama which is not dubbed (ie original voice is not replaced). This is different from "Madame Chin" which was dubbed. When broadcasted, fans complained when they could not hear his original voice and felt like a stranger speaking.

Career is successful, but after Zai Zai broke up with DaS his love life is empty. Da S is now married to another person. In a Japan interview Zai Zai said that if he was to be romantically involved again, he prefers to keep it low profile.

Home is not necessarily a place or a house, the most vital part of Home is the family. Wherever the family is, that is Home ... ... This is succeeding the classic "Radio will never disappear", another heavily invested production by Talent International Media Group to create one more epic psychological war drama. "The Other Side, 1945" presents a brilliant interpretation of Home. Starring Vic Zhou and Wang Xue Qi.

"The Other Side, 1945" is about the young Taiwanese doctor Su Tai Ying who, in the midst of the turbulent era, was mistaken as a Japanese soldier in China battling his own compatriots. Because of his longing for his home and his faith in his family, thus began the long and winding journey towards home. According to reports, the drama has completed shooting and is now in intensive post-production.

Star-studded cast Epic joint production

This time, the creative team of "The Other Side, 1945“ under instructions of Talent Media and under the guiding principle of “outstanding content, first-rate production quality, superb mass entertainment” invited popular Taiwan idol Zhou Yu Min of Meteor Garden, Jin Da Ban and other nationally hot dramas who convincingly portrayed Hua Ze Lei, Sheng Yue Ru and other characters to take the lead role. Female lead is Yan Na from Talent Media Company. Also in the drama is well-known veteran Wang Xue Qi acting as army commander and Yan Na's father.

Remains true to history

Set amidst the backdrop of war, brutal fighting, brutal assassinations, the story begins with a single ordinary person, then deepened into historical and brutal war scenes, giving up survival chances to loved ones at the battlefield, full of political struggle, suspenseful spying, mistrusts, lovers forced apart, family rivalry, sacrifices for love, the sorrow of commander's pregnant daughter who journeyed to reunite with her lover only to find him married to another, riches to poor overnight. Plotting out the emotionally intense story scene-by-scene which spanned from the end of 2006 to 2009, from Taipei, Keelung and Shanghai, after 2 years of study and historical research, interviews with senior citizens of both banks, recording their recollections, reviewing large collections of written and pictorial records, then using the unique TV medium to interpret the memories of that era.

Embracing historical facts, recording the passion of the past, we look forward under the drama's powerful interpretation, the testimony of 1945 to 1949, testimony of that extraordinary period.
